Also it has historically been impossible to mount cameras in the desired places, specifically as there has been no method of transmitting the captured images back to the base station. Until recently many of the available images have come from cameras situated in the valleys and resorts being pointed up the mountains with the hardware being connected to a standard phone line. However, Powder Blue decided to try something different. Using the smartBridges product range brought from specialist distributor Wireless CNP, they installed an airBridge Total at the top of the Le Brevent Cable car in Chamonix which sits at an altitude of 2525 metres, with an enclosed Axis PTZ camera. This has allowed a view of the Mont Blanc Massif, one of the most beautiful and most recognisable in the Alps. The available bandwidth that the airPoint allows, as opposed to slower GPRS or analogue technologies, means that the transfer of over 30 images on each capture is easily achievable. These are then transmitted over 3km down into the valley floor to an airPoint Pro Total mounted internally behind a wooden shutter, which in turn is connected to an ADSL connection.
